Although it is sometimes attributed to an Irish group who enjoyed the winter snow in Sydney's Blue Mountains and likened it to christmas back home in the snowy cold winter, the precise beginnings of the Christmas in July tradition are not totally clear, nor do they need to be, as it is a simple idea that is enjoyed by many.
Besides the crisp Blue Mountains' air and great hospitality, we all enjoy the crackling log fires, mulled wine and egg nog by the gallon, bon-bons and silly hats, turkey, ham, plum pudding and mince pies, sitting on Santa's knee, singing carols round the fire until we are hoarse and drinking enough port to fill Sydney harbour.
